My Approach

Watah-1I offer individual talk therapy for adults and adolescents, and play therapy for younger children. I also work with couples, families and groups.

My graduate school training has been psychoanalytically oriented.  I also employ cognitive behavioral and family system techniques.

I am familiar with many specific approaches to treatment, including social skills training, anger management, impulse control, emotion regulation, frustration tolerance, problem solving, conflict resolution, parent training.  Each can be important elements of an endeavor that includes curiosity and compassion, and is responsive to your needs.

Developing a trusting relationship is an essential part of psychotherapy.  When we feel understood and respected, we often feel better.  Increased awareness of our own thoughts and feelings, especially about significant people in our lives, can play an important part in change.  From the experience of therapy sessions new patterns of thinking and acting emerge. We come to suffer less and feel empowered and effective in our relationships and work or school.
